Quilting Code at University of Sunderland

Together, we explored possibilities of translating Internet phenomena into a tapestry of stitched code. Starting with the elements needed to communication, we initiated a series of symbols, stitches and patterns to begin to tease apart the ways we prioritise, understand and exchange information. Using Google Zeitgeist 2013 as a starting point for addressing the news items, searches, and celebrity gossip that defined our digital lives last year, Quilting Code attempts to not only preserve, but gain insight into contemporary cultural production.

This is an ongoing project, so stay tuned for information on future iterations and more images showing how the quilt develops!

Join artist Victoria Bradbury and me for our exhibition, Up the Creek, Under the Cloud. We will be showing two new participatory projects at the intersection of embroidery and the digital.
